Volunteer Form

All volunteers must complete a background check and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Due to the nature of our organization, short-term and project-based volunteer opportunities are limited. Most volunteer opportunities are Monday-Friday during working hours. All volunteers are asked to commit to at least five hours of volunteer time a week.

Cathy O., Volunteer

In 2014, recently retired, I was looking for someplace to volunteer when I saw a brochure about Asylee Women in the gallery of my church. I had no idea what I could do there, but decided to give it a try. As I got to know the AWE family of staff and asylum seekers, my understanding of the world broadened and I saw how I didn’t need special training to be of use. I take care of the donated clothes and teach English to beginners two days a week.

AWE is so much more than a place to volunteer. It is a true community. People who have moved on from the program, keep in touch and stop in to visit anytime they like. They know that AWE is a place where they can see friends, re-connect and be welcome. They can “come home” for holiday celebrations and events, laugh and relax a bit. People who have lost everything, can find support for the transition to a new language and culture.
